The North Oakland Transportation Authority is comprised of six (6) municipalities in northeast Oakland County. These communities, Orion, Oxford, and Addison Townships and the Villages of Lake Orion, Oxford and Leonard have historically been underserved by the regions public transportation authority, SMART. This has been primarily due to our remoteness to Oakland County's population centers. The only service that existed prior to the creation of grass-roots advocacy and coalition-building, was a program initiated in Oxford and Addison townships that operated one (1) vehicle.
In 2001, Oxford, Orion, and Addison residents formed the North Oakland Transportation Authority (N.O.T.A.).
We are moving rapidly to keep up with demand. In 2011, N.O.T.A. provided 41,900 rides traveling 492,061 miles with expanded service hours with 17 vehicles. 14 of the 17 vehicles are equipped to transport wheelchairs.
